During the course of the Initiative, we discovered that creating a community of Israel educators contributed to success even within individual schools.  Educators learned from colleagues in other schools.  BASIS brought many challenges for participants – being a part of a larger community of educators helped to inspire and motivate participants.

A community was developed via various BASIS-wide programs and events, chiefly:

  • Community-wide professional development programs; and
  • Community-wide Israel cultural events, in which teachers and students gathered.

In addition, monthly gatherings of the Community of Practice (CoP) of Israel education coordinators (also known as BASIS Coordinators) developed a cohesion among this key group of BASIS leaders.

“I think that for me personally, the support and organization of the CoP forum was the most valuable for me insofar as it brought me in contact with other schools and their coordinators; and the idea sharing and resource sharing that went on alongside incredible support and inspiration - this was the essence of BASIS’ contribution to our school.”
