Early Childhood Education

Focus on Excellence

Jewish LearningWorks’ approach to Early Childhood education is centered around a “Focus on Excellence” and a rigorous re-thinking of best practice. We work with our partner sites to define excellence in early childhood Jewish education, leading them as they seek out key identifiers of excellence that fall within five core curricular elements.  Designing curriculum, providing professional development opportunities, creating a system of internal and external communication, connecting with families, and connecting with the host institution that houses the school are all part of the focus. When put in practice together, these practices lead to dynamic curricula and energized and reflective teachers and directors, which in turn leads to deeper connections with our youngest learners and their families.

FOCUS ON EXCELLENCE INITIATIVE

What makes a school excellent? What makes a Jewish early childhood program excellent? How do we measure success?

Working together with Jewish early childhood programs, we developed a set of guidelines that characterize best practice in early childhood and Jewish education. Creating these benchmarks has the potential to help schools identify their strengths and weakness and work in the pursuit of excellence. The program also serves as a guide for parents, community leaders and fundres as we work to maximize the potential of Early Childhood Jewish Education.
