The publication of Robert Alter’s The Hebrew Bible: A Translation with Commentary marks the first single-author literary translation of the complete Hebrew Bible. As Professor Alter shares reflections on this decade-spanning achievement, we will have the opportunity to celebrate this landmark work—the capstone of an illustrious career of scholarship.
Robert Alter is emeritus professor of Hebrew and comparative literature and founding director of the Center for Jewish Studies at UC Berkeley, where he has taught for more than fifty years. Professor Alter has published more than twenty works on the Bible, literary modernism, and contemporary Hebrew literature.
